Paid Family Leave Grants

While we generally focus on the need for earned sick time (defined as a limited number of days in which a worker can take time to care for oneself or one's family) on this blog, occasionally we like to bring you some information about the need for paid family leave (used for longer-term, more serious reasons such as childbirth) as well.  Yesterday on NPR, the need for paid family leave was again brought to light:

For millions of Americans, a major illness or family crisis means time off work with no pay. In recent years, several states have passed their own paid leave programs. Half a dozen more are trying but are largely stalled by the bad economy.

Now, the Obama administration's proposed budget aims to encourage states to push ahead.
