Pennsylvania Paid Family Leave Campaign

In August 1993, President Clinton signed the first major family leave policy in the United States - the Family Medical Leave Act. The new law, first introduced in 1994, ensured workers in large companies had access to unpaid leave to care for themselves or immediate family members. Today, more than 50 million Americans have benefited from the FMLA - but it still is not enough.

Only 60% of workers qualify to take FMLA, and many of the workers who do qualify - 78% - say that they didn't take the leave they needed because they couldn't afford it. Our families, our businesses, and our economy need a paid leave program that ensures no one has to choose between the treatment they need and keeping a roof over their family’s heads.

Over the next few years, the Pennsylvania Coalition for Healthy Families and Workplaces will focus not only on paid sick days, but also on paid family leave.  Check out our new website as we move ahead, and visit our posts below to see what we've done so far.
